The year 2010 marks the 1000th anniversary of the completion of the Shahnameh, a Persian masterpiece and the world's longest poem. To celebrate its millennium this exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum presents rare Iranian and Indian paintings inspired by the seminal work.
The Shahnameh, the title of which means 'Book of Kings', may be a literary masterpiece but its influence stretches far beyond paper and print. Artwork inspired by the poem that is on show in this exhibition includes nearly 100 rare Iranian and Indian paintings, all crafted at different points during the past 800 years.
