Welsh National Opera's music director Lothar Koenigs conducts two of the company's three operas this autumn at its Donald Gordon Theatre home in Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre. Mozart's ever-popular Magic Flute joins Beethoven's Fidelio and Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.
Lisa Milne is Beethoven's heroine Leonore who, disguised as Fidelio, frees her husband, Dennis O'Neill's Florestan (17 & 25 September; 1 & 8 October).
Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos mixes an aristocratic entertainment with the classical myth of abandoned Ariadne (Orla Boylan) found by Bacchus. Sarah Connolly and Gillian Keith also star as the composer and Zerbinetta (7 & 9 October).
Dominic Cooke's acclaimed and magical production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, conducted by Gareth Jones, stars Peter Wedd (Tamino) and Elizabeth Watts (Pamina) (24 & 26 September; 2 & 6 October).
