With its beautiful location at the head of Loch Fyne, the Inveraray Highland Games in the grounds of Inveraray Castle are particularly noted as the "friendly games". They are opened by the Duke of Argyll.
There is the usual mix of track and "heavy" events - the shot putt, hammer throwing and caber tossing - for the sports-minded, and both Scottish dancing and bagpiping (solo and team) for those with a more artistic bent. Since 2009 the Games has also both hosted the World Caber Championships and featured the Royal Scots Dragoon Pipes & Drum.
